Photocatalytic oxidation (ARC) uses ultraviolet radiation to activate a multi-metal catalyst: moisture in the air is converted into vaporised hydrogen peroxide, an oxidant that destroys pathogens before turning back into water vapour. Bipolar ionisation then generates positive and negative ions that carry this oxidant to the pathogens, in the air as well as on surfaces.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWhat sets it apart from a HEPA filter or a UV lamp is this transport. A filter only treats what passes through it, and in a room of several dozen square metres, most spores never reach it.
